Ban the Bags reports that 1,316 hospitals and birth centers are now bag-free – 40% of all hospitals and birth centers in the US. While this is always good news, formula marketing never takes a holiday, it simply moves to greener pastures.
Large displays of free formula gifts have cropped up in pediatric and obstetric offices. Formula companies depend on the tacit endorsement and promotion of its products by physicians, nurses, and other trusted healthcare providers. It is always disappointing to see providers turned into formula salespeople. Let’s ask our health provider colleagues to avoid such conflicts of interest.
